Translated to English I don't like ingrained habits that have gone unquestioned, or the voices, solely mine, that seek to lead me down old and obscure paths. I don't like defeat, but I hate losing myself. I don't like thinking that today I haven't learned anything, that life passed me by and time ran short. I don't like the moments when finding beauty becomes complicated, or when I fall into comfortable disbelief. I don't like it when I go to bed and my legs still want to move. I don't like it when, at midnight, I forget where I am. I don't like lost dreams because they taste like nothing. I don't like loving as I do or when walking down the streets I imagine I'm not who I am. I don't like impatience or the rigidity of its forms, or what flowers feel when they're moved to a bigger home too soon. I don't like wanting to control everything because what will my soul live on if I steal its surprise? I don't like it when I'm afraid because my brow furrows and my desires slip away. I don't like the distance between his body and mine, nor the growing awareness that I must let myself go.

Translation to English I like watching the sun's sleepy reflection in his car's rearview mirror as we journey back home. I like to imagine the darkness settling over the neighborhood where we live, as the journey concludes and familiarity replaces surprise. I like the repeated conversation defeating the silence and when I caress his neck, tensed to keep us safe. I like to open the home door and curiously smell the house we live in. I like when, upon entering, I find something I left behind and missed while I was away. I like to feel the fresh sheets we strategically changed before leaving to embrace us upon return. I like to savor the fresh water from the tap and think it has unique taste and maybe, some supernatural powers. I like to review the pictures of the journey and choose three favorites, those where the light hides the parts of me I don't want to see. I like to return to boredom, to balcony afternoons and crosswords, and to the unfounded terror of our comfortable routine. I like the spontaneous dinner of pizza and salad because we didn't have time to cook something better. I like his tired face with his two surrendered eyes, looking at me with affection; I like to close mines knowing that the journey will never end |
